Viticulture: Sustainable, soil-focused farming. The 19-hectare vineyard forms a largely contiguous walled estate on the highest western section of the Saint-Émilion plateau. Planted mainly to Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, on asteriated limestone and clay-limestone soils. Vines contributing to the grand vin average around 35 years.
Winemaking: Whole, uncrushed berries are fermented parcel by parcel in small temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. Gentle extraction through manual punch-downs. Aged for 14–18 months, generally with 40–60% new French oak, complemented by used barrels and a small proportion of amphorae.
Château Clos Fourtet is renowned for its strategic location within the Saint-Émilion appellation, just steps from the local church. This estate, spread across 19 hectares, benefits from the unique north-facing limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion, offering a rich tapestry of terroir that contributes to the distinctiveness of its wines.
