ABV: 12.5%
Bottle Size: 750ml
Blend: 90% Chardonnay and 10% Pinot Noir
Region: Avize and Ambonnay Grand Cru, Champagne, France
Viticulture: Soil-focused farming adapted to each parcel. Hand-harvested Chardonnay from chalky marl soils in Avize, complemented by Pinot Noir from Ambonnay. The domaine encourages natural soil development rather than following a fixed farming formula.
Winemaking: Primary fermentation in 228-, 400- and 600-litre oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation is allowed to occur naturally. Aged for one year in barrel, then around five years on the lees in bottle. Disgorged as Brut with low dosage, varying between releases.
Champagne Jacques Selosse is one of the estates that changed the language of grower Champagne. Based in Avize, in the Côte des Blancs, it was transformed by Anselme Selosse from a family domaine into one of the region’s most influential names, with a Burgundian way of thinking about vineyard, maturity and place.
Selosse can be rich, savoury and intensely textured, yet the best bottles keep a strong mineral drive beneath the depth. It remains one of Champagne’s cult domaines: original, sometimes challenging, but enormously important for the way it helped move the region toward terroir consciousness.
