ABV: 14%

Bottle Size: 750ml

Grape: Nebbiolo

Region: Barolo Pira, Piedmont, Italy

Viticulture: Non-invasive farming without irrigation or fertilisation, with permanent grass cover and copper and sulphur treatments. Vines over 25 years old from the south-east-facing Pira monopole in Castiglione Falletto, planted by massal selection on white limestone, grey and blue marl, sand and iron-rich soils. Hand harvested in small crates.

Winemaking: Destemmed and fermented in wooden vats with an indigenous-yeast starter, followed by 60–70 days of submerged-cap maceration. Aged for three to four years in large neutral oak, followed by concrete, for around five years in total. No new oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Roagna is one of the most respected traditional estates in Piedmont, with deep roots in Barbaresco and important holdings also in Castiglione Falletto, in Barolo. Now led by Luca Roagna, the family has become closely associated with old vines, long macerations and a patient approach that puts vineyard character ahead of winemaking fashion.

The wines are built around Nebbiolo, especially from historic sites such as Pajè, Asili, Montefico and Pira. They carry a relatively light signature and unfold with time, showing rose, red fruit, herbs, spice, tar and a firm, savoury structure. Roagna’s best wines have the seriousness of traditional Piedmont, but also a etheral lift, making the estate one of the key references for Barbaresco and Barolo made with patience, restraint and real ageing potential.
