René Lafon, head of Domaine des Comtes Lafon from 1956, was pivotal in its development as a premier Burgundy estate. The domaine, established by Comte Jules Lafon, includes exceptional vineyards in Meursault and Volnay, and part of Le Montrachet grand cru. René retired in 1982, passing the reins to Dominique Lafon, who expanded holdings and transitioned to organic and biodynamic farming in the 1990s​.
