- English-language hardback exploring Burgundy through 59 short, story-led “tales” rather than a conventional textbook approach
- 280 pages, richly illustrated (listed as 113 colour and 13 b&w images)
- Edited by Susan Keevil, with an introduction by Jasper Morris MW and a foreword by Aubert de Villaine
- A multi-voiced portrait of Burgundy, with contributions from leading Burgundy and wine writers (and a few unexpected literary cameos)
- Ranges across the region’s paradoxes: sky-high reputation and prices, microscopic vineyard distinctions, and the sheer diversity from Chablis to Beaujolais.
- Publisher: Académie du Vin Library (published 4 October 2023)
Susan Keevil is, first and foremost, an editor with proper wine dirt under her nails. She began in wine at the practical end, then moved into the business of making wine intelligible on the page—most notably alongside Hugh Johnson on multiple editions of The Pocket Wine Book—before steering Decanter and later writing and commissioning widely across the category. Her particular strength is knowing when to let a story do the explanatory work: in Burgundy, where the facts can be both minute and maddening, that instinct is not a flourish but a method.
