Session #2

Winery: Stella di Campalto

Vintages: 2012 - 2018

Location: St. Gallen, Switzerland

Stella di Campalto has emerged as one of the leading wineries in the prestigious Montalcino region, renowned for its Brunello di Montalcino wines. The winery has distinguished itself through its biodynamic approach, working in harmony with nature to enhance the biodiversity of the vineyards. This method goes beyond organic farming, as Stella di Campalto completely avoids synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Instead, she uses natural preparations made from herbs, minerals, and animal substances to enrich the soil and create the best possible conditions for the vines to thrive.

Another key element of biodynamic farming is the lunar calendar. This method aligns vineyard work with the phases of the moon to support the natural rhythms of the plants. Stella di Campalto combines this traditional approach with modern technology, allowing her to produce wines of the highest quality that reflect the character of the terroir.

The winery is located at elevations between 210 and 290 meters above sea level, with nine different parcels that offer diverse microclimates. Each parcel is vinified separately, allowing the unique characteristics of the terroir to be expressed in the wines. The southern exposure of most of the vineyards provides optimal sunlight, which is crucial for the ripening of the Sangiovese grapes.

On October 26, 2024, an exclusive tasting of these wines will be held at the Einstein, showcasing the philosophy and craftsmanship of Stella di Campalto. The tasting will consist of three flights, presenting different vintages and maturation styles from the winery.

The first flight will feature the Rosso di Montalcino, with three vintages:

Rosso di Montalcino Libero 2014, aged for an impressive 47 months in oak, giving it remarkable depth.

Rosso di Montalcino 2015 and Rosso di Montalcino 2016, both aged for 19-21 months in oak, offer a fascinating comparison of two consecutive vintages, each shaped by the distinct weather conditions of their year.

The second flight will highlight two Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wines:

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2012 and 2013, both aged for 43 months in oak. These top-tier wines demonstrate how crucial maturation time is for the structure and expression of a Brunello.

The third flight will feature three more Brunello wines:

Brunello di Montalcino 2015, aged for 45-47 months in oak, representing the potential of a classic Brunello vintage.

Brunello di Montalcino VCLC 2016, aged for 43 months in oak, with a unique character influenced by a special vineyard parcel.

Brunello di Montalcino Cielo 2018, aged for 31 months in oak, showcasing the youngest vintage in the tasting.

This event will provide a unique opportunity to explore the wines of Stella di Campalto and experience the art of biodynamic winemaking in the elevated vineyards of Montalcino. By presenting various vintages and styles, the tasting will highlight how terroir, climate, and maturation time shape each individual wine. Stella di Campalto’s wines demonstrate how sustainable winemaking and top-tier quality can be harmoniously combined.
