Laurent Gotti came to Burgundy through reporting (the Hospices de Beaune auction in 1997) and has been based in the region since 2000, combining writing, teaching and tasting work, including a professional certificate in sensory analysis and contributions to publications such as Guide Hachette and Terre de Vins. Sylvain Pitiot is a topographical engineer by training, and his map-first, on-the-ground knowledge shows in the way the region is laid out and explained; he has also worked in Burgundy at estate level, including managing Clos de Tart in Morey-Saint-Denis.
