Michael Broger
Winemaker Profile | Thurgau, Switzerland
Michael Broger, born in 1970 in Thurgau, developed a passion for gastronomy early in life. After working for several years at various independent wineries both domestically and abroad, he established his own winery in 2003 on the Ottenberg, above Boltshausen. There, he cultivates approximately 3.5 hectares of owned and leased vineyards.
His vineyards are located on the steep slopes of the Ottenberg, one of the key winemaking regions in the canton of Thurgau. There, he primarily cultivates Pinot Noir (Blauburgunder) and Müller-Thurgau. Notable wines include the "Ottenberg Blauburgunder 'Alte Rebe'" and the "Weissherbst," a delicate summer wine with aromas of exotic fruits, strawberry, and grapefruit.
Michael Broger places great emphasis on sustainable viticulture, cultivating his vines according to biodynamic principles, although not officially certified. He avoids chemical pesticides and relies on manual labor in the steep vineyards to reflect the authenticity of the terroir in his wines. His motto, "Less is more," guides his work both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
