Pierre-Oliver Garcia
Winemaker Profile | Burgundy, France
Pierre-Olivier Garcia, originally Moron-Garcia, is an estate founded in 2016 by the now eponymous Pierre-Oliver, and close friend, Matthieu Moron with a clear ambition to produce haute couture wines that focus on purity, aromatic finesse and terroir expression. In stark contrast to the many brooding, austere and rustic Nuits-St-Georges producers Garcia emerged like breath of fresh air, challenging the traditional image of Nuits-Saint-Georges wines.
The estate is now fully run by Pierre-Olivier, who places great emphasis on biodiversity and experiments with practices such as grain cultivation, plowing, tree planting, and using chickens to graze the land. These efforts aim to reintroduce flora and fauna into his vineyards.
His estate spans approximately 5.5 hectares of cherished Pinot Noir vines. Garcia's Brouilly plot “la folie” and his textural Aligoté make for some of the most interesting expressions of these two grapes anywhere in the region. Pierre-Olivier Garcia is renowned for his painstaking "Baie-par-Baie" technique, where a minimum of one third of the grapes are meticulously hand-separated, berry by berry, from the stems. His fanatical attention to detail results in exceptionally healthy and fresh grapes. His wines are characterised by finesse and expressivity, reflecting the unique terroir of each vineyard. No producer in Nuits-St-Georges today is more focused on coaxing individual subtleties from its lieux-dits than Garcia, from his Vosne-bordering plots such as Herbues all the way to his towering Grandes-Vignes in Prémeaux, Garcia is truly a Nuits-St-Georges specialist.

There is a real sense of aestheticism about Pierre-Olivier Garcia who’s philosophy rests on a deep respect for nature and craftsmanship. For Garcia, sustainability is not a requirement but a burning conviction. Vineyards are farmed organically and artificial interventions in the cellar are avoided at all cost. For Pierre-Olivier, wine is a Sonnet, to which each vineyard and vintage adds its prose. With every bottle, he invites us in, to become part of this story—a dialogue between nature, time and ourselves.
