Viticulture: Certified organic farming with biodynamic practices. The contiguous 78-hectare of 50 year old vines is planted on deep Günz gravel over clay and limestone. Hand harvested and managed parcel by parcel.
Winemaking: Whole berries are gravity-fed into small wooden vats and fermented at around 28°C. Gentle extraction through manual punch-downs. Aged on the lees for around 18 months in 60% new barrels produced in the château’s own cooperage. Racked only once during élevage.
Château Smith Haut Lafitte, dating back to the 14th century in Pessac-Léognan, Bordeaux, was named by Scottish merchant George Smith in the 18th century. Owned by the Cathiard family since 1990, the 67-hectare vineyard primarily grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. Renowned for biodynamic farming, the estate produces prestigious red and white wines, embracing modern technology alongside traditional methods.
