Domaine Albert Boxler

Profile de Producteur | Alsace, France

The Historic Domaine Albert Boxler has been producing wine since 1673 in Niedermorschwihr, Alsace, and has remained in the Boxler family’s hands ever since. The estate draws its name from Albert, who after World War II, returned to his home country from Montana, USA, and began bottling and marketing the estate’s wines himself under his own label. The charming period label, designed by his cousin, is still in use today. Albert’s son Jean-Marc carried the torch until 1996, when he handed the reins of the estate over to his son Jean.

Domaine Albert Boxler boasts vineyard holdings on the renowned Grand Cru sites of Sommerberg and Brand. The range of grape varieties cultivated includes traditional Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Muscat. The Boxler Sommerberg rieslings, particularly from Eckberg “E” and Dudenstein “D” parcels are the tours de force of the estate, renowned for their minerality and complexity. The depth and nobility of these dry rieslings could hardly be overstated. Boxler wines, which marry elegance and unmistakeable expression of terroir, represent year after year, some of the finest expressions of dry riesling to be found anywhere. This quiet monument of Alsacian winemaking has long stayed under the radar but is seen amongst riesling fanatics as the most noteworthy producer of the Appellation.

Sustainable and attentive viticulture is the cornerstone of Domaine Albert Boxler’ philosophy. By employing biodynamic farming practices and keeping the use of chemicals to a minimum, the estate sustains the vitality of its vineyards and biosphere yielding characterful and naturally balanced wines. Vinification is carried out in service of a singular goal: retaining individual terroir characteristics in each wine.

With a few years in bottle, the wines of Albert Boxler truly bloom.
