Blend: 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Franc.

Region: Pomerol, Bordeaux, France for vintages through 2024. Classified as Vin de France from the 2025 vintage.

Viticulture: Sustainable, soil-focused farming. Hand-harvested Merlot and Bouchet, the estate’s old massal selection of Cabernet Franc, from a single 4.5-hectare vineyard established in 1872. The vineyard is planted in roughly equal proportions and combines sandy clay-gravel, clay-gravel and gravelly sand soils. Multiple selections are carried out in the vineyard and cellar. 

Winemaking: Fermented in stainless-steel and concrete vats with gentle maceration and moderate extraction. Aged for around 15 months in French oak, generally with approximately 25% new barrels and the balance in recently used oak.

Château Lafleur occupies a singular place in Pomerol, despite its modest size and understated presence. Long associated with the Guinaudeau family, the estate is built around a distinctive balance of Merlot and Bouchet, the local name for Cabernet Franc, planted on one of the appellation’s most remarkable gravel-rich sites.

                                                                                                     

The wines are among Bordeaux’s most individual: dense without being heavy, intensely aromatic, and capable of ageing for decades. Lafleur rarely feels like a wine of polish alone; it has a deeper, more elemental character, combining dark fruit, floral complexity, mineral tension and a structure that can be almost Médoc-like in its firmness. It is one of the great estates of the Right Bank, not because it follows the usual image of Pomerol, but because it so clearly transcends it.
